With Akhil Akkineni’s Agent making a poor collection at the box office in three days, producer Anil Sunkara said that the film is his costly mistake as he started the project without a bound script.

Having made his acting debut in 2015, Akhil Akkineni has suffered back-to-back disaster with Akhil, Hello, Mr. Majnu, Most Eligible Bachelor and Agent. In a bid to score a big hit, the young actor toiled really hard to get the right physique and did some dare-devil acts for Agent. Considering its huge budget of over Rs 50 crore, the film was expected to be a game-changer for this struggling star kid.

Despite having a huge hype, Agent opened to a poor response and collected around Rs 7 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. The Surender Reddy-directed movie garnered negative feedback and word of mouth took a huge toll on its business in the following days. The film struggled to even cross the collection mark of Rs 15 crore gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend.

Agent has turned out the biggest Tollywood disaster of 2023. Anil Sunkara took to his Twitter to accept its failure and admit his mistake. The producer wrote, “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed.”

Anil Sunkara added, “We don’t want to give any excuses but learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turn around to make sure, we will never repeat the mistakes. Our sincere apologies to all those who put trust in us. We will make it up for the losses with dedicated planning & hard work in our future projects.”

Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Very rarely have I seen producers/directors/actors accepting failure gracefully… Requires courage to publicly acknowledge failure of your just-released film [#Agent], #AnilSunkara ji… That too within a week of its release… We all learn from our mistakes and am sure, you will bounce back stronger with your next film. #Respect @AnilSunkara1.”
