COVID-19 cases cross 21,000 in India; Here’s the state-wise count

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in its latest report stated that the total number of registered coronavirus positive cases in India has gone up to 21,393 as 1,409 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 681 after 41 casualties were reported yesterday. The Health Ministry also stated that 4,258 patients have recovered from the coronavirus illness.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of registered coronavirus cases in the country. So far, the state has recorded a total of 5,652 positive cases and 269 deaths. Gujarat follows second with 2,407 positive coronavirus cases. Other states with a high number of cases include Delhi (2,248), Rajasthan (1,890), Tamil Nadu (1,629), Madhya Pradesh (1,592), Uttar Pradesh (1,449), and Telangana (945).

In the last video interaction by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the State Chief Ministers, a decision to extend the lockdown in the country by two weeks was passed. On April 14, Prime Minister Modi announced the lockdown extension till May 3.

According to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University, the total number of COVID-19 cases around the world has surpassed 26 lakh. The coronavirus has killed over 1.8 lakh lives around the world. The US has recorded the highest number of cases at over 8.4 lakh. More than 46,500 patients have lost their lives in the United States due to COVID-19.
