COVID-19 Update: Number of registered cases in India crosses 11,400

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the other ministers and healthcare professionals speculated the number of cases tested positive to the novel coronavirus not to subside any time sooner. The Prime Minister announced the extension of the lockdown to be observed until May 3 to control the spread of the highly contagious virus.

In the past 24 hours, the number of registered coronavirus positive cases has crossed over 11,400 in India. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has registered a total of 11,439 positive coronavirus cases, as 1,076 cases were detected in the past 24 hours. India has lost a total of 377 lives to the contagious coronavirus, with the highest number of deaths in the state of Maharashtra. Maharashtra has reported a total of 178 deaths caused by the coronavirus. A total of 1,305 patients have recovered from COVID-19 illness and are discharged from the hospitals.

Maharashtra tops the list with the highest number of detected cases that account to 2,687. Tamil Nadu follows it with 1,204 registered cases, Telangana with 624 cases, Rajasthan with 969 cases, Madhya Pradesh with 730 cases and Gujarat with 650 registered cases, among other affected states in the country.
