April 22 is celebrated as the Earth Day all around the world to show care and support for the world environment protection.
On the occasion of the International Earth Day 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the people of India to come together and work towards a cleaner and healthier planet. The first Earth Day was observed in the United States when the people of America took to the streets in a peaceful call for reforming the environment and restoring the health of the planet Earth, following an oil spill off at the coast of California.
Nearly half a century later, Earth Day has called for people around the world to unite in the fight against the global pandemic, COVID-19. The coronavirus has infected over 2 million people across the globe and is continuing to spread.
In his tweet on Wednesday morning, PM Modi gave a shoutout to all the workers who are at the forefront of fighting the COVID-19.”On International Day of Mother Earth, we all express gratitude to our planet for the abundance of care & compassion. Let us pledge to work towards a cleaner, healthier & more prosperous planet,” PM Modi tweeted on Earth Day. “A shout out to all those working at the forefront to defeat COVID-19. #EarthDay2020,” the Prime Minister added in his tweet.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, also shared a tweet on the Earth Day. “Our planet is going through one of the biggest crises in human history – the #CoronaPandemic. But a bigger threat is staring at us – climate change. We must all act together to fight these challenges and preserve our beautiful planet,” tweeted the West Bengal CM.
The Congress Party also shared a tweet on Earth Day 2020. “The present crisis is a wake-up call to renew our commitment to create a new plan for our planet,” tweeted the Congress.
The President of Earth Day Network, Kathleen Rogers, said, “Amid the recent outbreak, we encourage people to rise up but to do so safely and responsibly – in many cases, that means using our voices to drive action online rather than in person.”
