England tour in jeopardy after the Covid-19 tally reaches 10 for Pakistani Cricket players

Pakistan Cricket board assembled its squad in Lahore before departing for the England tour next month. Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan were tested positive for coronavirus initially, after which seven more players were announced to carry the virus, namely, Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan, and Wahab Riaz. The list also included a member of the supporting staff. Apart from these eleven members of the team, all the players were, and the staff was tested negative and are in a bio-secure environment in Lahore. PCB requested the people of Pakistan and all across the world stay cautious and continue to take precautions to protect themselves from this deadly virus, which shows no symptoms.

He also informed that as soon as these players recover and give two subsequent negative tests, they will be allowed to go to England. As for the tour, which is not canceled yet, alternative plans are being drawn up. Another test will take place on June 25th, after which the Pakistan squad will leave its shore on June 28th. Reaching England, there will be another test conducted within 24 hours, and after which, the players will be staying in a bio-secure environment to continue training. After a quarantine period of 14 days, according to the English regulations for athletes, they will be allowed to participate. Pakistan’s test side has all the players fit except Mohammad Rizwan, who was tested positive. 


West Indies is already in England training under quarantine to prepare for the three test match series in England. When they Caribbean none of the players were tested positive, and everything was going smooth for the return of Cricket. The Pakistan incident could be a wake up all for the cricketing community members to take precautions and strictly follow orders. PCB promised to support these players for their wellbeing and has quarantined them away from their families to protect them and their loved ones. Any player that contracts the virus will be the tour and will be allowed to return only when they pass two negative tests. The series is in jeopardy, although PCB says the series will go on as scheduled.
