Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed England’s Jason Roy for INR 2.8 crore for the TATA IPL 2023 from his base price of INR 1.5 crore. He will replace Shreyas Iyer, who was recently ruled out.
Announcing his entry into the team, the Kolkata Knight Riders tweeted, “We can’t be more excited to share this news with you, fam! 🤩 𝘚𝘸𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘮, @JasonRoy20! 💜 #AmiKKR #TATAIPL2023.
The team also tweeted a video in which Jason Roy was seen saying, “I just wanted to say how excited I am to put KKR Jersey on in this year’s IPL. I am very excited to join up with a great squad and a great management team. So thank you very much for the opportunity and I’ll see you all very soon.
Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the tournament owing to a lower back injury while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has confirmed his unavailability for the season. The 28-year-old has been dealing with a back injury for a long time. According to reports, he will be travelling overseas for the surgery and out of cricketing action for at least three months before he resumes training.
Jason Roy, who earlier featured in the IPL seasons – 2017 and 2018, last played in the 2021 season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2021, he played five games, scoring 150 runs including a half-century.
