The Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a 6-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at match 18 of the TATA IPL 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday (April 13).
Gujarat Titans’ captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. Mohammad Shami and Josh Little jumped into the action straightaway and got Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan out, respectively. But Matthew Short (36), Bhanuka Rajapaksa (20), Jitesh Sharma (25), Sam Curran (22) and M Shahrukh Khan (22) played well and scored 153 for a loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Chasing a target of 154, Gujarat Titans were off to a rollicking start. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha put GT ahead in the chase. Just when the two were nearing the fifty-run partnership, Kagiso Rabada dismissed Saha. Sai Sudharsan joined forces with Shubman Gill as the duo took GT to 80/1 at the halfway mark.
Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar dismissed Sai Sudharsan and Hardik Pandya respectively. Gill continued his splendid batting display and reached his half-century with a four as he was joined by David Miller at the crease. With 7 needed off the final over, Sam Curran cleaned up set batter Shubman Gill to snatch back momentum. However, ice-cool Rahul Tewatia scooped Curran to hit the winning runs and seal the deal for GT.
