IPL 2023 Match 7 – April 4 updates: Gujarat Titans beats Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets

The Gujarat Titans have beaten the Delhi Capitals by four wickets in the Match 7 of IPL 2023 held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 4. The GT team said that it was a hard-fought match.

Skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to field first. David Warner started with a few boundaries, but Mohammad Shami derailed the Delhi Capitals’ momentum with two quick wickets. After forcing a false shot off Prithvi Shaw, Shami dismissed Mitchell Marsh in his next over.

Warner continued to keep the scoring rate on the higher side for Delhi, but shortly after the powerplay, Alzarri Joseph turned the tide in Titans’ favour. The Caribbean pacer turned it on – dismantling Warner’s stumps to begin with, and then sending Rilee Rossouw back for a duck. He came close on two more occasions in the same over, forcing the Capitals on the backfoot.

Rashid Khan, who came onto bowl in the 13th over, took a wicket off his second delivery. He went on to dismiss Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan, finishing with figures of three for 31. Shami picked up his third wicket in the final over as well, restricting Delhi Capitals to 162 for eight in 20 overs.

After the break, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill got off to a positive start, but they departed in quick succession. Hardik Pandya was dismissed early on as well. Vijay Shankar walked in to replace Joshua Little, to accompany Sai Sudharsan. The duo batted with patience, mixed caution with aggression, and kept the scorecard ticking at a promising rate. They added 53 runs for the third wicket, with Shankar scoring a crucial 29 off 23.

David Miller walked in to bat. The South African smashed two sixes and a four off Mukesh Kumar. Titans accumulated 20 runs off the 16th over and Sudharsan gave the finishing touch, completing his second TATA IPL half-century with a boundary. The southpaws added 56 runs in 29 balls, helping Titans complete yet another run chase in the tournament.

“We picked up their second win of TATA IPL 2023 in a hard-fought match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. A few hurdles came our way, but the spirit of our Titans overshadowed the challenges and helped us triumph yet again. This was our fourth successive win in TATA IPL and the 10th win in 11 matches batting second,” read a statement released by Gujarat Titans.
