Today, a Delhi court has sent Sharjeel Imam named as an “instigator” by the Delhi Police on violent protest charges against last year’s amended Citizenship Act or CCA at New Friends Colony near Jamia in Delhi to judicial custody until 3rd March.
Last month Sharjeel Imam was arrested on charges of sedition.
Before Chief Metropolitan Gurmohina Kaur the Delhi Police department has filed the charge sheet by naming the Sharjeel Imam as an instigator of the violence.
It has said that CCTV footage attached and call detailed records, statements as a testimony of more than 100 witnesses in the charge sheet.
The court had sent Sharjeel Imam in the case to one-day Delhi Police custody on Monday. In the case, he wanted to question him because the accused-Furkan-alleged in his disclosure statement on 15 December 2019 that he was provoked by the speeches of Sharjeel Imam.
Previously police have told the court that Furkan was arrested on a CCTV footage that showed him holding a potentially petrol-containing bottle.
Four people were arrested in the case and sent to judicial custody on 15th December 2019. Furkan was later arrested.
On December 15th the protestors have torched four public buses and two police vehicles during the demonstration against the CAA in New Friends Colony near Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, leaving nearly 60 people injured including teachers, cops and firefighters.
There was a protest against the contentious law that seeks to give citizenship to religious minorities who are not Muslims from three neighboring countries who came to India before 2015 to escape religious persecution.
