Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar-led Congress registered a historical success, by becoming the single-largest party with the victory in 135 assembly constituencies in Karnataka on Saturday.
The counting of the voting for the Karnataka Assembly election, which was held on May 10, took place on May 13 and Congress comfortably swept past the majority mark of 113 seats, winning 135 seats. The incumbent BJP was defeated badly as it just won 66 seats, while JD(S) satisfied with 19 seats.
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who took to Twitter after the counting of the votes, described this success as ‘ a victory for a secular party’. The Congress leader tweeted, “This is a victory for a secular party!! People of Karnataka wanted a stable government that delivers as promised, and hence have given the mandate for Congress!!”
Siddaramaiah claimed that the results show that the people of Karnataka have rejected communal politics. The ex-CM tweeted, “Honesty over 40% commission, Stability over instability, Secularism over communal politics, Harmony over hatred, Karnataka pride over trouble engine, Kannadigas’ mandate is loud and clear!! It is Congress!!”
Talking about the victory, DK Shivakumar turned emotional and said, “Congress party’s victory is Karnataka’s victory- a hard earned one! Our guarantees for our people are the guiding force of our vision for the state and we shall get down to implementation right away. This is a huge mandate for our leaders and workers who have worked hard for this win. My heartfelt congratulations to all!”
