It’s been more than a month that India’s been under lockdown as announced by PM Modi. Now the lockdown that was supposed to end on May 3 has now been extended by two weeks i.e till May 17th, giving way to lockdown 3.0. However, this lockdown has come with several relaxations from the opening of shops/industries to people being allowed out of their houses. Now, these new relaxations didn’t get that much notice as this the news of the opening of liquor shops across the nation. Govt announced that the liquor shops will not be opened on Monday and since yesterday long queues have witnessed outside stores from early morning. 

While people were witnessed standing in long queues for hours to reach the liquor shops, social distancing rules which have been important to COVID 19 also went for a toss as many people did not follow the rules and there was a huge crowd outside the liquor shops. Due to this, as per reports, many liquor shops in Delhi have been shut. Now Actress Malaika Arora had something to say about this scenario. Sharing a screenshot of this piece of news on her Instagram story wrote, “I still don’t get what was the need or desperation or necessity to open liquor shops!! Bad bad idea. Only gonna create more chaos, domestic abuse, child abuse.” 

Malaika’s words do make sense. Though it was important for the Govt. to open the liquor shops as the revenues were super low it is also to be pointed out that since the lockdown, according to reports there have been more cases of domestic violence and child abuses on a daily basis.
