Movie review of Anushka’s new production, Bulbbul

Anushka Sharma is on a roll lately. She’s been investing her time in production and has come up with good stories and this can be seen in her last production Paatal Lok which was appreciated all over the social media by fans as well as critics. Now Anushka’s back with a new story and this time it’s called Bulbbul which stars Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam, Rahul Bose, and Parambrata Chattopadhya and has once again impressed the audience and garnered positive reviews and ratings.

Bulbbul is a supernatural drama and Anvita Dutt has written the story, screenplay and dialogues and directed the film, jointly produced by Anushka Sharma and Karnesh Sharma under the banner Clean Slate Films and is streaming on Netflix from June 24. Set in 20th century period pieces, the movie is about a child bride, who grows up to be an enigmatic woman presiding over her household, harboring a painful past as supernatural murders of men plague her village. The film tells the story of a man who returns home after years to find his brother’s child bride now grown up in his ancestral village.

The story of Bulbbul revolves around a patriarchal society and how it’s threatened by strong women in every century. From child marriage in colonial India, caste system, class discrepancies, misogyny to sexism the movie talks about the important topics that are often left untouched but also have been a part of our society. According to viewers, the storyline is predictable yet it is engaging and entertaining throughout the story. Speaking about the cast, Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam, Rahul Bose and Parambrata Chattopadhyay have delivered brilliant performances, which are the highlights of Bulbul. Picturization, background score, special effects and dialogues are outstanding and attractions on the technical front, add the audience.
