New Zealand finally free of the novel coronavirus, eases restrictions

New Zealand adds their name to the list of Covid-19 free nations. Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of Zealand, announced that the last remaining women affected from the virus recovered yesterday after showing no symptoms for the previous 48 hours hence making the country Covid-19 free. She has lifted all the restrictions on the people and requested to live their life in normalcy again. Though she said that international arrivals will still not be allowed and strict border control will be maintained as they are the first line of defense against the virus, the immediate family members of New Zealand citizens could enter the country.

Jacinda Ardern issued lockdown when there were 200 cases in the country that number never exceeded above 1200. PM Jacinda Ardern thanked the unity of the people and their unprecedented support to the cause. Google data also shows that the kiwis followed the lockdown by strictly limiting their movement, according to the data, compared with Americans or Britishers and even their neighboring island Australia.

The Prime Minister received praises from all over the world, including the World Health Organization, for issuing policies and undertaking measures to stop the spread of the virus. The Kiwis took to the internet and social media to express their excitement and share the news. They were excited to be able to roam around again, sitting and drinking next to their friends, and being allowed to touch their faces again.

The USA is the worst affected country accounting for more than 1/3rd of the total deaths due to coronavirus. And there are also more than ten countries with more than 1 lakh confirmed cases. PM Jacinda Ardern issued a lockdown on 25th march in 4 stages starting with level 4 lockdown where nobody is allowed to move out of their homes, and essential shops are only to function, gradually they moved to stage three in April and stage 2 in mid-May.

They decided to lift the lockdown at the end of June, but since there was no newly reported case for the past 17 days, they decided to bring things back to normalcy and resume the lives of people. She thanked the people of New Zealand and called them a team of 5 million to unite the people against the pandemic. The government is still promoting social distancing while stating it is not necessary. She also promised that now they will be able to recover their economy, and this will provide a head start as they will be easing restrictions and opening their economy.
