Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hoped that Mehbooba Mufti’s legal team would take a cue from the High Court judgement quashing Ali Mohammad Sagar’s PSA detention.
J&K HC quashed the detention of JKNC General Secretary Ali Mohd Sagar today. Omar Abdullah tweeted, “The J&K High Court has quashed the detention of my senior colleague @JKNC_ General Secretary Ali Mohd Sagar. Thankfully he challenged his detention even when those around him were reluctant to. This once again highlights the unjust & indefensible nature of the 5th Aug detentions.”
Shariq Reyaz, who represent Ali Mohammad Sagar’s case, shared his excitement, by tweeting, “The preventive detention order of Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar quashed by HC. Had the pleasure of arguing his case along with Mr. Shuja Ul Haq before the HC. Judgment to be uploaded soon.”
Omar Abdullah retweeted Shariq Reyaz’s post and thanked him for his efforts. The former J&K CM tweeted, “Well done @ShariqJReyaz. Thank you for all efforts you put in to fight this case.”
Later, Omar Abdullah appealed the authorities to release Nayeem and Hilal. He tweeted, “Although Nayeem Sb & Hilal haven’t challenged their detentions in court I hope the authorities see the writing on the wall & realise their continued PSA detention is indefensible. They two must be released as must all the others under illegal “house arrest”.”
Omar Abdullah also asked Mehbooba Mufti’s legal team to follow the steps of Sagar’s team. He wrote, “I hope @MehboobaMufti’s legal team take heart from today’s judgement in the J&K High Court quashing Sagar Sb’s PSA detention to pursue Ms Mufti’s case in the Supreme Court with increased determination & vigour. She deserves to be freed without further loss of time.”
