Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condemned the central government for extending Mehbooba Mufti’s detention by three months, saying that it is cruel and retrograde decision.
Omar Abdullah said that the detention orders of Mehbooba Mufti, Sagar Sahib, Shah Faesal and other J&K leaders would expire soon. He urged the union government to set them free and allow them to resume a normal life.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister tweeted on May 4, “Over the next few days the PSA detention orders of @MehboobaMufti, Sagar Sahib, @shahfaesal & others are due to expire. It’s high time they are set free & allowed to resume a normal life. There was no justification for their detention much less as extension.”
Omar Abdullah was shocked to read the report of Press Trust of India that Mehbooba Mufti’s detention has been extended by three months. The PTI News tweeted today, “Detention of former J-K CM Mehbooba Mufti under PSA extended by three months: Officials.”
Soon after reading the news, Omar Abdullah took to his Twitter account to condemn the government’s decision. He wrote on Tuesday night, “Unbelievably cruel & retrograde decision to extend @MehboobaMufti’s detention. Nothing she has done or said in any way justifies the way the Indian state has treated her & the others detained.”
Omar Abdullah alleged that Mufti’s detention is a clear proof for Narendra Modi pushing J&K back decades. He tweeted, “For a government that is making tall claims about normality in J&K the last few days coupled with the extension of Ms Mufti’s detention is proof enough that Modi ji has single handedly pushed J&K back decades.
Omar Abdullah further tweeted, “General Secretary of @JKNC_ Sagar Sb has also had his PSA extended by a further 3 months. I’m struggling to get my head around the decision & the logic behind it because it smacks of vindictiveness & nothing else. New Delhi needed to make friends in J&K but is doing the opposite.”
