Pakistan Zindabad is trending on Twitter after advocate Prashant Bhushan, journalists Sagarika Ghose and Nikhil Wagle condemned the Bangalore court for denying a bail to Amulya Leona.
Amulya Leona, a 19-year-old-girl from Bangalore, arrested on the charges of sedition after she raised the slogan of ‘Pakistan zindabad’ at an anti-CAA-NRC rally in the city on February 20. She has been in jail for over 3 months she is in Jail. A Bengaluru court canceled her bail application on Thursday.
Soon after new about it broke out, Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who is known for filing PILs on various issues, tweeted, “Absurd for the court to deny bail to this young girl charged with sedition for saying: “Hindustan aur Pakistan donon jindabad”.These courts do not same to know even the ABC of law. SC had said that there is no offence of sedition unless you incite violence.”
Sagarika Ghose, a noted columnist and author of several books on current affairs, tweeted, “The basic principle is bail not jail. Bail is a legal right, denial of bail can’t become punishment without trial. A teenager shouting a mistaken slogan is such a grave threat to the nation? #Bailnotjail.”
Nikhil Wagle, Former editor of Mahanagar and well-known political analyst tweeted, “Bengaluru court denies bail to student who shouted ‘Pakistan zindabad’: Let us not forget she also said ‘India Zindabad’. An idealistic or ‘naive’ stand. But does she deserve this harassment?”
