Prashant Bhushan, a popular Public Interest Lawyer and social activist, has opined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi could have handled the COVID-19 situation in India better than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prashant Bhushan took to his Twitter account to share his views on COVID-19 situation in India. He tweeted, “Imagine how much better the situation in India would be today if the Congress was in power & its manifesto promising Universal basic income (advised by many Nobel laureates) had been implemented? We would not see the distress & destitution of migrant workers that we see today.”
Rahul Gandhi first alerted Narendra Modi-led government to take coronavirus seriously . The Congress leader tweeted on February 12, “The Corona Virus is an extremely serious threat to our people and our economy. My sense is the government is not taking this threat seriously. Timely action is critical. #coronavirus.”
When the government did not take any serious action against the spread of COVID-19, Rahul Gandhi tweeted again on March 3, “There are moments in the life of every nation when its leaders are tested. A true leader would be completely focused on averting the massive crisis about to be unleashed by the virus on India and its economy. #coronavirusindia.”
Rahul Gandhi also shared a video of how Singapore was fight against the Coronavirus pandemic and wrote, “Dear @PMOIndia, Quit wasting India’s time playing the clown with your social media accounts, when India is facing an emergency. Focus the attention of every Indian on taking on the Corona virus challenge. Here’s how it’s done.. #coronavirusindia.”
Reacalling his message, Prashant Bhushan added, “Rahul Gandhi has been batting for cash transfers. He was also among the first to alert us about Covid (when Modi was busy with Namaste Trump & did not stop International flights). Clearly the man mocked as ‘Pappu’ has more brains than the combined BJP brass.”
