In a surprising move, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced to stop printing and circulation of Rs 2000 notes, which has flooded Twitter with some epic funny memes.

This evening the RBI announced that it will stop printing and circulation of Rs 2000 note. The notes can be exchanged in banks by September 30, 2023 and the maximum limit will be up to Rs 20,000 at a time. However, this note will be legal tender even after this date in the country.

ANI tweeted the press note released by the RBI and wrote, “Reserve Bank of India has advised banks to stop issuing Rs 2000 denomination banknotes with immediate effect though banknotes in Rs 2000 denomination will continue to be legal tender.”

ANI added, “Rs 2000 currency note will remain legal tender after 30th September too. RBI expects that 4 month time is enough for people to exchange notes with the banks. Most of the Rs 2000 notes that are in circulation will return to banks within the given time frame of 30th September. This is a routine exercise of RBI and people need not panic: Sources to ANI.”
