RR captain Sanju Samson slapped with Rs 12 lakh fine for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow-over rate in an IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 12.

Slo-over rate is proving to be an issue in the IPL with a lot of games stretching past the four-hour mark. Recently, it was RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in a match against LSG. Now it is the turn of Sanju Samson to breach the IPL’s Code of Conduct in the match against CSK, according to the statement released by the BCCI.

“Rajasthan Royals have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Sanju Samson was fined ₹12 lakh,” read their statement.

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl in the 17th match of the IPL. Rajasthan Royals scored 175 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Chasing this target, CSK managed to gather 172 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. RR won the match by three runs. It was for the first time that RR had defeated CSK in Chepauk in 2008. The team has achieved this after almost 15 years. It was a matter of great joy and pride for Sanju Samson who the fine of 12 lakh would not mean anything, but a word. It was RR’s third win in four games, while CSK suffered their second loss of the season.
