WhatsApp video status limits to 15 seconds in India to prevent internet strain

Now, You may no longer accept videos to the WhatsApp Status if they are longer than 16 seconds; only 15-second videos are allowed.

India’s WhatsApp messaging app recently experienced an increase in use due to the country’s coronavirus lockdown. The increase in consumption, however, causes excessive internet bandwidth-hogging at a time when web use is soaring.

So, WhatsApp is limiting the length of videos that can be posted as WhatsApp Status.

The report clearly specifies that it only appeals to Indian users, and they will not be allowed to upload videos longer than 16 seconds.

WhatsApp’s move is being taken to reduce traffic on servers. When the nation is under full lockdown, more and more people are entertaining on their smartphones, and that has resulted in more calls, video, and voice calling on WhatsApp.

“You can no longer send videos to WhatsApp Status if they are longer than 16 seconds: only 15-second videos would be enabled. This is happening in India and it is possibly an effort to minimize server network traffic,” tweeted WAbetainfo.

It was reported that some Indians were still able to upload videos longer than 16 seconds. The new service is set to be rolled out soon for more Indians.

While this news might upset a lot of WhatsApp users who thoroughly enjoyed posting long trails of videos as their status, WAbetainfo assured it’s a temporary decision and will ensure full features in the future.

WhatsApp’s decision to reduce the video status duration shouldn’t come as a surprise as several platforms are taking steps to reduce internet bandwidth consumption.
