Fifteen years after the release of his superhit movie Anniyan, director Shankar has announced to adapt the movie to Hindi He has roped in to Ranveer Singh to play the lead role played by Chiyaan Vikram. The director is confident that the Bollywood superstar is the perfect match to the role in its Hindi remake.

Talking about why he chose Ranveer, Shankar says, “For #Anniyan to be made in Hindi, I needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part. I found that in Ranveer Singh, who is a once-in-a-generation actor. I’m thrilled to make Anniyan pan-Indian & I’m confident that it’ll strike a chord with all.”

Anniyan is a psychological action thriller film, which about a man named Ramanujam, who suffers from multiple personality disorder. He works as a lawyer by day and a vigilante at night. He uses tips from the ‘Garuda Purana’ as his tools to expose various antisocial elements. The lead role is one of the toughest roles of Indian cinema that not many actors would imagine to perform.

Ranveer Singh, who is one of the most gifted actors of our times, is thrilled that Shankar has him the opportunity to essay the role. Talking about it, he says, “I am blessed to have this opportunity to be a part of the spectacular cinematic vision of #Shankar sir. He is an exception to the norm, and a true disruptor. I had always hoped and dreamt that I would get a chance to collaborate with him!”

Talking about Vikram’s role, Ranveer Singh hopes that he will do justice to the role. The Bollywood actor adds, “To lead Anniyan is a dream come true. Vikram sir, one of India’s finest talents & whom I hugely admire, gave a colossal performance in the original, one that can never be matched. I hope that my interpretation & rendition of the part also connects with audiences.”

Ranveer Singh, who is 20-film old in the industry, has played variety of roles and wowed the film goers across the globe with his top-notch performances and expressions. Many audience including some critics are confident that the Bollywood actor would fit the bill perfectly.

Film critic Sumit Kadel tweeted, “And my dream comes true- #RanveerSingh teams up with #Shankar for the hindi remake of Tamil Iconic Blockbuster #Anniyan ( Aparichit) .. I am sure @RanveerOfficial will do complete justice with the iconic character originally portrayed by Vikram.”

A fan named Diptendu Chakraborty (@DiptenduC) tweeted, “I am sure the kind of actor #RanveerSingh is he is best suited to portray the character originally portrayed by Vikram.”

But some film goers are doubtful about Ranveer Singh matching the expressions of Vikram in the Hindi adaptation of Anniyan. A fan named Sathya (@SathyaDarlingF1) tweeted, “No one can replace the legend Vikram What is happening to director Shankar sir he is mad going to remake his own cult film with Ranveer Singh. This scene is going to be a challenge for #RanveerSingh Flop flop #Anniyan #Apartheid #Shankar

Another fan with the handle @iamsrk_brk1 tweeted some photos of Vikram from Anniyan and wrote, “Don’t think anyone can do this variation of role like #Vikram was in this scene from Aparichit/Anniyan. It would be tough for #RanveerSingh to match this level.”

Sam (@SAMTHEBESTEST_) tweeted, “This scene has a separate Fanbase. Ranveer Singh has got the biggest challenge of his career with #anniyan remake. He can either become a legend by justifying his role or become a troll material by spoiling it. There is no other getaway. #RanveerSingh #ChiyaanVikram #Shankar.”

AJ Patil (@aj2coolpatil) tweeted, “#RanveerSingh #shankar #anniyan shankar lost his midaas touch right from I and 2.0 which are decent movies. but remaking own cult film that too starring vikram is ridiculous. it is impossible to fill vikram’s shoe. Shankar running out of new ideas.”
